With the 94th-overall pick, the Chicago Bears select Justyn Ross

The Bears’ next pick in my mock draft is why I was totally committed to trading down. This wide receiver has enormous potential to be a great tall slot receiver for the Chicago Bears. He is Justyn Ross. He is 6’4″ with great hands and is a great route runner with truly impressive YAC skills. He puts it all together in a big way as he has that clutch gene.

In 2018, his freshman season at the wide receiver factory of Clemson University he had a thousand yards with a 21.7 average and nine touchdowns. Clemson also went undefeated and won the national championship that year. Historically, if a player plays well as a freshman he very often will have a very good future in the NFL.

The fact that Justyn Ross played a vital role as a freshman for an NCAA Championship team adds a positive aura to his possible future success. Following his freshman year, Justyn Ross had another very good season in 2019 then in the COVID shortened 2020 he had to sit it out with an injury.

Unfortunately in 2021, Justyn Ross’ production was way down but this was not his fault as his QB played very very poorly. Justyn Ross is a diamond in the rough waiting for some smart general manager to pluck him amid the less-heralded prospects.

His biggest drawback is Ross will not likely have a long career as he has a congenital condition in his neck and spine. However, given his plethora of skills, Justyn Ross could at least play a big role in the first four to five or even six years of Justin Fields’ career. At this point in time Fields needs all the best skill position players the Bears can find for him.
