Steam for this Chicago Bears draft target picking up
When the Chicago Bears sent their wide receiver coach to Cincinnati, there was an obvious connection to Alec Pierce. The Bears have serious needs at wideout, and Pierce is a player who would be in the range for the team to select him in the 2022 NFL draft.
While initial thoughts were that he could be in play at pick 71, if the Bears miss out on wide receiver early, recent rumors are that he may be in that group of players the team will be considering at 39 and 48.
According to Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network, Pierce is in play to be a top 50 pick.
It Is interesting that Pauline mentions the Green Bay Packers below the Bears pick as well as the Indianapolis Colts who pick right before the Bears.
This establishes a strong range where Alec Pierce is likely to be selected. Between picks 42-53 you should expect to see him go. This brings the question of whether the Chicago Bears should be the team that takes him in that range.
At pick 71, it was an easy decision, and apparently too easy in the eyes of NFL decision-makers. At pick 48, there are real discussions about what he brings. He is a downfield threat and a jump ball wideout, but can he run the full route tree? Does he have top wideout upside?
At the same time, he may be the best fit for Chicago from the wide receivers taken. The top five wide receivers are expected to be gone, and that number could be as high as seven or eight by the time the Bears get to pick 39.
If that is the case, a top trench player could fall to 39. If they pass on a wide receiver at 39, and Alec Pierce just so happens to be the top wideout left on their board, they may be in the spot where drafting him at 48 is fair enough value. Keep an eye on the name Alec Pierce as well as his connection to Chicago in round two.
