The Chicago Bears should try to trade for Deebo Samuel before the draft

Lastly, the Bears could go after the hottest name in today’s rumor mill: Deebo Samuel. While the 49ers seem sour on the idea of trading Samuel, the wide receiver has made it abundantly clear that he wishes to move on from San Francisco. As the only one of these three to make it officially known that he’s requested a trade, Samuel could be the most likely one moved.

For the Bears to land Samuel would mean two things. First, they would have to offer “the moon,” as the 49ers have reportedly stated they would ask for. Second, the Bears would have to be completely sold on a guy who only has one elite year of production.

Is Samuel the best wide receiver out of this group? That’s debatable, based mostly on overall production and consistency for the last few seasons. But, it’s Samuel that’s coming off an All-Pro season and who looked like one of the most dominant players in football all of 2021.

For that reason, the Bears would have to offer a hefty package including first and third-round picks next year and their highest second-rounder this year at No. 39. In return, the Bears get Samuel and could possibly ask San Francisco for something like a sixth or seventh, just to have one more shot on goal for the draft — even if it means the 49ers’ very last pick in the draft.
