One thing that could have helped the Chicago Bears during round one was a run on quarterbacks. We know that the team is not going to take a quarterback this year, so it would be beneficial if more of them were off of the board by the 39th pick so that the team could end up with a player much higher rater than 39.

However, that did not happen as this year is just not a good quarterback draft class. Only one quarterback went, which helped Chicago, but led to things like six wide receivers going in the first round.

Still, while the quarterbacks dropping was not a win for Chicago, there is still a chance that they could salvage it.

First, now that teams are out of the first round they may be more influenced to take a shot on someone that they are not fully invested in. If two or three QBs go in the first six picks it would still be a huge win.

The other factor is the trade-down option. Seattle picks 40 and 41, and they have been tied to quarterbacks in round two. They do not have their guy and could bring in some cheap competition.

Sitting at pick 39 may be a spot where the team starts getting phone calls. If teams know that jumping Seattle is the last chance at their quarterback it could allow the team to pick up some extra assets.

Beyond that, in most cases, the drop-down would probably not be all that much. Atlanta at 43, Detroit at 46, and New Orleans at 49 all could be seeing Seattle and thinking that jumping up 5-10 spots to take their guy is worth it.

On the flip side, the Chicago Bears have to be thinking that if they can pick up an extra draft pick or two to move back 5 to 10 spots it would be an easy decision for them as well. Keep an eye on this possibility.
