Dominique Robinson 2022 NFL Draft Profile Scouting Report with comparison

Dominique Robinson is the rare case of a player who was recruited to Miami (OH) to play wide receiver but left the school as an outside linebacker/defensive end. That is not your typical move from wideout to tight end. Robinson has only been in that role for two seasons, and one was during the COVID shortened year. The lack of experience has him underrated, but he flashed enough in his limited role to get an invite to the NFL Combine with the hopes of getting selected in the 2022 NFL draft.

Below you can see his four-year statistics. It is tough to knock the lack of production because, for the number of games that he played, it does look pretty solid. Beyond that, he broke out when he was able to get a bigger sample of work.

For a player coming from the MAC, an experience like the NFL combine is huge for his NFL draft stock. Teams need to see how he compares to potential peers in the NFL because he did not face them nearly as often as players from bigger schools.

In that area, Robinson tested out in the top 93% of all NFL Combine athletes.

He is a bit undersized for a defensive end, but being a former wide receiver will probably give him the benefit of the doubt that he can put a little more weight on. The rest of his profile looks strong, including having one of the better verticals for his weight.

Strengths to Dominique Robinson that will translate after the NFL draft

The athleticism is great In the gym, but the good news for Robinson is that it also shows up on videotape. Robinson has a great vertical and his burst is evident when he faces off against tackles. He is able to show great initial burst, and he often leans on getting out of his stance and into the backfield before tackles.

The other area in which Robinson excels is his body movement and change of direction skills. He excels in stunts and even blitzing off of the ball because the running start can typically get him the burst he needs to twist between lineman and sneak into the backfield. His wide rush and burst off of the ball can also help the quarterback contain, as it hard to get outside on him. He is crafty, and used in the right manner could improve his game immensely.

Weaknesses where Dominique Robinson must improve in the NFL

It is pretty obvious that Robinson is still raw considering how little he played quarterback. Robinson got to face off with Daniel Faalele and Bernard Raimann who both will be top 50 picks in the NFL draft, but beyond that, the talent he faced was few and far between.

Robinson can win with the burst, but if you beat him to his arch, he really has little other to try and twist inside or keep arching outside. There is little hand usage, and he hardly utilizes his length.

Beyond that, he can get his eyes too deep into the backfield against the run which breaks the contain and allows runs to break outside. Miami would often use him just on third downs, or just in obvious passing downs because he can get washed in the run game when his strength and hand usage are singled out.
