4. Kyler Gordon is a zone cornerback

Kyler Gordon plays with fluidity in a way that he can follow wide receivers, but he is much more suited to play zone, which is what he did most often at Washington.  According to PFF Gordon played zone on 80% of his defensive snaps.

So, he has played man coverage, but that is not what he is used to. This is a good development for the Chicago Bears. Matt Eberflus has always leaned towards zone, and there has been talk about the Tampa-Two being a prominent coverage for the team.

If that is the case, it would make sense why they liked Kyler Gordon as a scheme fit. Beyond that, Kyler Gordon played press coverage on 45% of his snaps. That means he was off a bit more often, at 55%.

The Chicago Bears will likely want to press at the line, then have their athletic cornerbacks drop back and read the cornerback in zone. Kyler Gordon may end up playing press a little bit more, but his experience in zone coverage should have him ready to come in right away.
