The key to what inspires confidence in the Chicago Bears drafting Thomas on day three is his athletic upside. Below you can see how Thomas compares to your typical offensive guard, thanks to Relative Athletic Scores.

First, you can see that he has slightly above average arm length and bigger than average hands. He is a bit tall, which makes sense considering he is moving from tackle, but he has adequate weight.

His bench press is low, but with longer arms that can happen. The rest of the athletic performance was electric.

The vertical was not strong, and this is interesting to note because everything else was in the top 90th percentile or at least close enough.

The best attribute to see is the 10-yard split as well as the agility drills. It was in his scouting report that he can get off of the football quick, and the split confirms that.

The agility drills are what is impressive, though, because they show that he has the feet to improve his change of direction. There is still potential upside that he can hang at tackle if the Bears can get a little bit better footwork out of him, which appears physically possible.
