2. Chase Allen, TE, Iowa State

The Chicago Bears signed Ryan Griffin, and James O’Shaugnessy, then brought back Jesper Horsted, so the tight end room may be hard to crack. However, Chase Allen is certainly a capable option to make an NFL roster.

It is hard for Allen to stand out when he was the second tight end at Iowa State, being a complement to Charlie Kolar. Kolar got drafted, and Allen had to wait, but Allen may be better than some tight ends who did get drafted, he was just hidden due to his school.

To the fans that were disappointed to see Jesse James leave, and appreciated his chemistry with Justin Fields, Allen may just be the new version of Jesse James.

Chase Allen is a bit thinner, but his arms are longer which can explain some of the difference in bench reps. Either way, beyond that they are similar athletes and move in similar manners.

That is why you do not re-sign James because you can find talent similar to his skill set in undrafted free agency.

Jesse James is not a sky-high comparison, and no one is saying that he will be better than James from day one. Still, this is a UDFA, so this is what you should expect, and if they do get similar production from Allen at some point, it would have to be viewed as a win. At the least, he will push the depth on the roster.
