3 UDFAs most likely to make Chicago Bears roster
1. Can Jack Sanborn, LB, Wisconsin make Chicago Bears roster?
Jack Sanborn is probably the player that fans are most familiar with. He was a three-year starter at linebacker for Wisconsin, and with that distinction, he fits a bit of the stereotype of that type of player.
A Big 10 linebacker who can read and react and is not afraid to attack downhill against the run seems to commonplace, and Sanborn fits like a glove. There is an obvious reason that Sanborn fell, the big one being his arm length. Check it out below.
Sanborn is also not a strong coverage asset. Teams likely saw him as one-dimensional and when they added in the arm length they assume there is a chance he will get washed out against bigger guards as well.
A run defender who gets beaten up in the run game is not valuable. Still, as a UDFA, the view on him is a tackling machine who can read the run game. If he can overcome the length and be that run stuffer, it is a win.
Heck, the way that Sanborn makes the roster is special teams, and his traits scream an option for that. With all of his starting for the Badgers, he does not have much work there but running downfield and making tackles sounds like his cup of tea.
Beyond that is the realization that the linebacker depth chart is not currently loaded with talent. Sanborn can immediately come in and compete with Matt Adams, who was a UDFA that turned into a special teamer himself. If there is going to be a UDFA on the Chicago Bears this year it is probably Jack Sanborn.
