Ereck Flowers, Offensive Guard

The major theme of this article is the offensive line. With the current wide receiver core, the Bears could get by much easier than they can with the offensive line. The Bears could have three, star wide receivers, but that doesn’t matter if Justin Fields doesn’t have time to get rid of the football.

Ereck Flowers was a highly sought-after NFL draft prospect in 2015 as he was selected ninth overall to the New York Giants. He could not figure it out at the offensive tackle position and eventually got released midseason eventually getting picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars to continue playing tackle.

After that, the Washington Commanders took a shot on him and moved him to offensive guard where he prospered for a season before getting a nice three-year, $30 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. He eventually got moved back to the Commanders to save money in a trade and had his best season in 2021 earning the highest PFF grade of his career.

Flowers now is a free agent and only at the age of 28, he has a few years left in the tank to possibly be a stop-gap right guard for a season or two and let one of the four offensive linemen drafted eventually take over for him.
