The Chicago Bears signed Amari Carter after the 2022 NFL Draft to a UDFA contract. Carter is a safety at the University of Miami.

Who is Amari Carter

It is easy to understand why the Chicago Bears were drawn to Carter as a UDFA. As a person, he has the character and leadership that the team is relying on. As players took NIL deals Carter used his to give back and fight homelessness.

Carter also is a multi-year captain and has 57 starts for the Hurricanes. He has been with the team for five years and has been considered a leader for most of his career.

On the field, he is a box safety who can shift into the nickel. Still, you want him in the box and near the football. He is physical and not afraid to attack downhill, but his biggest issues come in coverage. He also can become too aggressive, and his best traits can become weaknesses.

Below you can see his RAS score. Compared to an average safety he is about average, and while he stands out in jumps, his 40-yard time likely confirmed why he went undrafted.

Where Amari Carter fits on Chicago Bears

The first thing that Carter is going to do is fit into the culture and help create the new environment. Just having players buy-in during a coach’s first training camp goes a long way.

Still, with his physicality and being a box safety, he is most likely going to be competing for a backup spot behind Jaquan Brisker. If this is the case, it is likely going to come down to special teams.

Next. 3 things to know about Zach Thomas. dark

Dane Cruikshank would be the leader to be the backup strong safety where we stand. Cruikshank was signed because he is trusted on special teams as well. Carter will get a chance to come in and compete, but he will have a tough time winning the backup safety job.

Still, this is a player you want on special teams, and he could make the practice squad, and fill that role next season.
