When the Chicago Bears signed Dane Cruikshank there was a question of whether the team is throwing a low-end contract player and hoping to get the most value out of it, or if they were still going to find a starting strong safety.

While Dane Cruikshank was the Chicago Bears’ starting strong safety at this point last week, he now is back in a role he is much more familiar with, a dime role player.

Sure, Dane Cruikshank will get a chance to compete, but with Jaquan Brisker going in the top 50 picks, he is almost a lock to start. Drafting him that high, and Ryan Poles admitting that he was far and away the best player on their board shows that they probably saw first-round upside from him.

They do not think that he is going to be eased into this role, and that means that Dane Cruikshank is now back to a more familiar role rather than being given a chance to earn real starting snaps.
