The Chicago Bears signed Micah Dew-Treadway to a UDFA contract following the 2022 NFL draft. Micah Dew-Treadway was a defensive lineman for Minnesota.

Out of high school, Dew-Treadway went to Notre Dame and actually spent four seasons with the Fighting Irish before transferring to Minnesota, where he played 2019-2021.

You read that right, Micah Dew-Treadway has spent seven years in college and is another player the Chicago Bears added who will be 25. As we wrote, him being 25 is not the issue, the issue is that he did not have the most success on the field until he was older and more mature than his opponents. This will not happen in the NFL.

Beyond that, Micah Dew-Treadway does not have great athleticsm. He was not invited to the NFL combine but did work out at the Minnesota Pro Day.

Even compared to an average NFL defensive lineman he is below average in almost all areas. His size is fine, but he is not fast, and it starts with a lack of explosive traits. The combination of a poor 10, vertical, and broad can all speak to the lower body not having the emphasis needed to compete in the NFL.

He is going to have to be overly reliant on his hand usage. Dew-Treadway only started three games last season and was not an impact player. The one thing that he has going for him is being an Academic All-American throughout his college career.

For Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus, they seem to be betting on the person here. For Dew-Treadway he is from Bolingbrook, Illinois, so if he is going to get one shot at the NFL, he probably took a lower salary deal to compete for the Chicago Bears. The odds are against all UDFAs, but some of them come in with a specific trait on the field that may get them a shot. Dew-Treadway is a culture player who will be helpful in setting the tone during camp but will likely be gone not long after.
