Chicago Bears Player No. 4: Dominique Robinson, EDGE

There are many reasons to be intrigued by fifth-round pick Dominique Robinson. Everyone’s path to the NFL is unique in some way or another, but Robinson’s road is truly one of a kind. After starting his career at Miami (OH) as a wide receiver, Robinson made the move to the defensive line. Though he wasn’t terribly productive, Robinson showed a lot of promise for a player who had never played the position until 2020.

The athletic ability needed to make the move from High school quarterback to wide receiver to edge rusher is undeniable. Robinson is seen as a developmental prospect due to his inexperience at the position, but he could be a day one contributor as a pass rusher. Robinson explodes off the ball and has the bend and change of direction to give offensive linemen trouble. He’s also very good in space which gives him potential in coverage as well as the run game.

For the last few years, the defensive line has been the Bears’ strong suit. But entering 2022, the unit appears much weaker. The addition of an explosive athlete like Robinson could be quite valuable to the team, even if he is far from a finished product.
