If the Chicago Bears are going to add between now and the start of the season it may be the wide receiver position getting a boost. One player to keep an eye on is K.J. Hamler from the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos are all-in with Russell Wilson, and that likely means that Hamler is a part of the picture. Still, Hamler has not produced as much as the Broncos wanted during his first two seasons, and the General Manager that drafted him is gone. Beyond that, the Broncos have Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Tim Patrick. Sutton and Patrick just signed extensions from the new regime, so they are not going anywhere.

The Broncos could keep Hamler as their number four wideout, but as a former top 50 pick in just his third NFL season, he could still have value elsewhere.

Hamler is still 22 years old and will be 23 when the season starts. That would make him the youngest wide receiver on the Chicago Bears by a year or so. Considering he is entering year three, and younger than some rookies, it should be encouraging that he has a lot of upside and that he would still be viewed as a high pick if he were in college last year.

For the Bears, his skill set is also what Justin Fields needs. Hamler is small, and that is certainly the knock against him. Still, the upside of someone like Hollywood Brown is still in his range of outcomes, and Brown just went for a first-round pick. The injury to Hamler could get the Bears someone with talent similar to Brown, at a cost that is not even comparable.

Justin Fields is a deep-ball passer, and his game revolves around speed threats. That is why he seemed to click with Darnell Mooney immediately. Adding Hamler is adding a skilled deep threat who can open more of the field and take away more attention for Mooney. Then, it can become more of a bombs away offense.

The Chicago Bears should at least call and see how interested the Denver Broncos are in keeping K.J. Hamler.
