Should Chicago Bears pursue this Bucs WR?

The Chicago Bears will certainly be looking to add to their wide receiver room at some point this offseason. One thing that could help them is teams with crowded wide receiver rooms. One of those is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This could allow a player to shake free such as third-year wide receiver Tyler Johnson.

Tyler Johnson has just 529 yards, but he also is just 23 years old. This makes him a player that would be the youngest on the Bears’ depth chart, including rookies. Johnson also had more yards last season than David Moore, Dante Pettis, Tajae Sharpe, and Equanimous St. Brown. The fact that he is younger than all of them and produced more than them last year has to be a huge nod in his favor.

Beyond that, he did it on a loaded depth chart. You can argue that he had Tom Brady throwing him the ball, but with Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski, and at times Antonio Brown, Brady could have easily looked elsewhere.

Getting on the field with that depth chart should mean he could sail to the top of the Bears. Johnson is still in a roster crunch on the Bucs, even without Antonio Brown.

Godwin is injured, but that led to the team signing Russell Gage and Breshad Perriman. With Evans, Godwin, Gage, and Perriman, there is room for one more wideout. They also have Scotty Miller and Cyril Grayson, and Grayson may make it for special teams.

This could leave the third-year wide receiver from Minnesota out of the pecking order. A late-round pick swap, a conditional pick, or perhaps the Chicago Bears just sniffing around to see if Tyler Johnson is going to get cut would be smart of the team to do.

dark. Next. Should Bears have interest in Denzel Mims

Johnson has been waiting for a chance on a stacked depth chart and is still young enough to take the bet on.
