3. Dazz Newsome
Dazz Newsome never really got a fair shake with the Chicago Bears. He had to hit the ground running as a sixth-round rookie for a team led by Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy fighting for their jobs. These two knew they were probably going to get fired and they did not focus on development as much as winning as many games as possible at any cost.
Still, now Dazz Newsome is on a team with a General Manager who did not really want him, and the offensive coordinator is bringing in wide receivers he has plans for.
The thing going in Dazz Newsome’s favor is how poor the wide receiver depth chart is. The other thing going for him is his return skills.
Still, what hurts him is that the Bears went out of their way to add return game options at all skill positions. Velus Jones, Trestan Ebner, and Darrynton Evans all were added with return game upside, and Khalil Herbert returned kicks last year as well.
Newsome is going to struggle to make it as a wideout without the return game ability and that puts him as a fourth or fifth string option. That may mean that he ends up getting released.
