The Chicago Bears could add Carlos Dunlap through free agency

This one might not even be worth mentioning. Carlos Dunlap seems to be in heavy talks with the Panthers. However, if Ryan Poles gets in touch with Dunlap’s agent, maybe he holds off on signing with Carolina. Dunlap would be a very similar player to Jason Pierre-Paul. He has no ties to the current coaching staff or the Chicago Bears. However, he is a veteran who has been in the league long enough that he could come into training camp and make an immediate impact.

Dunlap spent of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, however, the Seahawks traded for him before the trade deadline in 20202. Dunlap did not disappoint. After only having one sack with the Bengals that year, he added five for the Seahawks after the trade. Last season, Dunlap only started two games, but he still finished with 8.5 sacks. That is some major efficiency.

Last season, Dunlap saw his snap share drop drastically to only 38%, but he still was able to come away with 8.5 sacks. I would expect if he were to sign with the Chicago Bears, he’d see a similar role here in this defense. I’d expect he’d see less than 50% of the defensive snaps and be on a rotation with Trevis Gipson and Al-Quadin Muhammad. This would be ideal though for the aging veteran and could keep him healthy for all 17 games.
