3. DeAndre Houston-Carson, S

Yes, it is training camp, but some of the plays where Justin Fields struggled mentioned DeAndre Houston-Carson making a big pick. Some of the players and coaches pointed to DHC after practice as a veteran who was setting a standard and buying into the new culture.

This is impressive considering DHC is coming from the old regime. Even more, he was a free agent this season and could have been gone. He got extended playing time last season for the first time in his long career, and perhaps Ryan Poles liked what he saw.

More than that, DHC has been an ace on special teams and that is what kept him in the NFL since 2016. DHC was an early Ryan Pace pick, to see him stick around in Chicago this long is impressive.

Now, we can get a glimpse into why. Ryan Poles liked what he saw, and Matt Eberflus has been impressed as well. The players have talked about him as well, and to see him buy in and run every repetition hard shows what it takes to make it as a sixth-rounder. Names that went ahead of DHC in the 2016 draft are Jerrell Adams, Devante Bond, Keenan Reynolds, and Tyrone Holmes. Houston-Carson sticking around this long is impressive, and reports like last week are why.
