2. Carson Taylor, Edge
Carson Taylor is a player to watch as training camp gets going. Taylor comes from Northern Arizona, and he is a UDFA rookie. Still, while Jack Sanborn is the early favorite for UDFA to make noise in camp, it has slowly shifted towards Carson Taylor.
Some of that has to do with opportunity. Taylor is another edge rusher getting more reps due to the thinning of the room. Robert Quinn is not around, and Al-Quadin Muhammad is not practicing.
Beyond that, the biggest news for Carson Taylor himself is Jeremiah Attaochu getting released. If Taylor stood out the most of the depth it put him sixth on the pecking order behind Quinn, AQM, Trevis Gipson, Dominique Robinson, and Attaochu. With Attaochu out of the picture, he can easily be the fifth edge rusher to make the roster, which is much more common than six of them making the team.
Still, for Taylor, it is even better because Quinn is gone, and AQM is not practicing. So from sixth to third, he shot up the depth chart as quickly as you can. Of course, next month he will be back in the five spots. Still, he worked the second team on almost reps, and if not it meant he was working with the ones.
At times, he beat Teven Jenkins, and reporters mentioned that while plays like that may be hurting Jenkins, they certainly helped Taylor. If any UDFA helped themselves in a short practice span, it has to be Taylor.
