As the slow grind towards training camp continues we are counting down the Chicago Bears roster from 90 to 1 in the meantime. This is viewing how impactful the player will be in the lens of the 2022 season.
As we continue the countdown we are onto number 83.
Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No 83 Kevin Shaa
Kevin Shaa is the second rookie on the list, the first being a long snapper. Still, in the case of Shaa you could argue he is a specialist in some ways as well. Shaa was a wide receiver at Liberty, but he did not light up the field with Malik Willis as much as he was respected in the return game.
Shaa is just 5’9″, and 169 pounds, which makes him tiny by NFL wide receiver standards. With that and his lack of dominant tape at Liberty, it is fair to say that return game ability will be his only chance to make the roster.
That is going to be an uphill battle. He edges out Nsimba Webster, who we ranked 84th, mainly because Ryan Poles signed Shaa, and Ryan Pace signed Webster. You could argue the experience Webster still has Shaa behind him.
Still, both of them are 84 and 83 because they have a long way to go to just be the return man. Beyond each other, Trestan Ebner and Velus Jones both were drafted, and both may see work in this area. They will also be skill players, and the Bears will rather have them fill the role than have a specialist for the role.
Beyond that, Darrynton Evans and Khalil Herbert both have experience in the NFL as return men. It makes it sound pretty tough for Kevin Shaa to make the roster, and he will need to be a playmaker from day one.
Even the practice squad would be a big win, and he currently sits in the bottom ten on the roster.
