Chicago Bears Surprise Impact Player No. 4: Braxton Jones, OT

How about we discuss another Jones on the Chicago Bears roster? That’s right, other players are truly having to keep up with the Joneses (alright, I’m showing my age there a bit). In this case, the Jones being discussed is Braxton Jones. He has seen his practice time jump up from the third-string to starting at left tackle for the last six practices.

Now, it’s not a guarantee that Jones has shown enough to get the starting nod at left tackle in training camp late next month. However, the fact that he’s seeing this type of playing time is important. Jones comes from a smaller college program, but he has the raw tools necessary to become a solid left tackle in the NFL. His arm length alone is worth giving him a shot. Jones has also proven that he’s coachable to this point as he’s taken what his coaches have shown and taught him and continues to improve.

If Braxton Jones ends up starting at left tackle come September, it will be interesting to see if Larry Borom or Teven Jenkins gets the nod at right tackle. Will one be kicked into the right guard spot? All I know is if a fifth-round rookie works his way into the starting spot at left tackle, he better be good. If this is the case, then he will easily surprise people by his first-year impact in 2022.
