No. 5 key to the success of the Chicago Bears: The rookies

Alright, this brings us to the final key to the Chicago Bears’ success in 2022. When we look at this team, Ryan Poles has done his job to overturn a couple of bad contracts, he cut some fat per se and he oversaw a draft with limited draft capital. Poles did his part at the draft too, when he made multiple trades and increased the Bears’ draft picks from five to 11. Now the key is how many of them can make an immediate impact this season?

I understand that many of these draft picks will not contribute this season. That said, the team is clearly going to be counting on a few select rookies. Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker were already mentioned and as most of you are aware will be starting at their respective positions. Adding Gordon to the mix should help Jalyon Johnson and between the two, we should see an increase in takeaways. Brisker will be starting and playing more of a strong safety, in-the-box role. This is important because it should hopefully help open things up for Eddie Jackson.

These two are not enough though. The Chicago Bears will need to see Velus Jones, Jr. prove many doubters wrong by providing explosiveness to the offense. Even if Braxton Jones does not start, having him succeed and push Larry Borom is important. As mentioned, the team must find out who makes the best starting five. Maybe, that even includes other rookies like Zach Thomas, Doug Kramer or Ja’Tyre Carter. If even three to four of these rookies play well, the Bears could surprise people with their 2022 success.
