We will be counting down the Chicago Bears roster as we count down the days until they report to training camp. This is the rare time where the 90-man roster is not moving too much and we can identify where players stack up before they report.
This list is highlighting how valuable they could be on the 2022 roster. Today, we look at number 73.
Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 73 De’Montre Tuggle
De’Montre Tuggle is a running back from Ohio. He is a UDFA rookie entering his first training camp. Tuggle was not initially signed but was given a tryout with the team. That weekend he beat out Master Teague for a roster spot.
The thing that Tuggle may have going for him was a combination of size and return game ability. Teague had the size but was stiff and only a power runner. Tuggle has the same size, but is a bit looser, and can turn it on a bit faster.
Still, that is in comparison to Teague, and now he has to make the 2022 Bears roster. That means being behind the obvious of David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert. That also means being behind Darrynton Evans and Trestan Ebner. The latter two are the passing down and change of pace type of backs while Tuggle is more of a backup to the former two.
This may help Tuggle stick around on the practice squad, and possibly be an injury away from shooting up the list. At the same time, until that occurs, he has to be just a bit outside of the top 70, which typically is where the prime practice squad candidates are.
A season sticking with the Bears on the PS would be a win for the De’Montre Tuggle at this point. We will see if he can earn this during training camp.
