1. Dane Cruikshank

There was about a four-week span where the Chicago Bears were slated to start Dane Cruikshank. Well, at least he would have been in a competition with DeAndre Houston-Carson, but DHC has typically been the backup free safety.

Either way, when the Bears drafted Jaquan Brisker in the second round, that was the end of that. Brisker fell to them, and they were prepared to have Cruikshank be that guy if the best player available was a different position, though. They did not force a safety there.

Beyond that speaking to the Bears’ confidence, at the least, he is going to step into the dime role, and possibly be the second linebacker at times when the defense wants to go light.

Cruikshank is another player who is going to make the roster because of his special teams’ ability, but the Bears very well could have a plan for how to utilize him as a third safety as well.

It could be down to Cruikshank and Adams getting the snaps as an 11th defender at times, and if either of these two can make the most of it, they can remain on the roster as starting pieces moving forward.
