5 comparisons to Khalil Herbert rookie season with Chicago Bears
3. Latavius Murray
Latavius Murray is obviously the successful outcome of the recent comparisons, as he gets ready for his ninth NFL season. This was a sixth-round pick who was able to have a similar season to Khalil Herbert, although it is fair to note that he was more efficient with a few bigger runs, and a 5.2 yards per carry rate.

He also was much more efficient as a pass-catcher. Still, a sixth-round pick with about 400 yards as a rookie found success, and he did it with a coaching change between his rookie and second season.
The difference between Murray and Hebert is that Murray beat out Darren McFadden as a rookie. The new coaching staff saw McFadden walk as a free agent so Murray was locked into starting before the season started. This is not the case of Herbert.
Murray produced 1,000 yards in his second NFL season, and it wound up being his best season. Murray has been a great complimentary runner, but only had one year as the main back. Herbert may be looking at something similar, although he will not get that chance in year two like Murray did.
