The long wait between the end of OTA practices and the start of training camp brings us to rankings season. This is now the downtime where everything and anything gets ranked, and we will join with our ranking of the Chicago Bears within their division.

We will go through each position and decide where the team ranks compared to the teams that they will be matched up against the most often. This will look at the complete rooms from top to bottom. Now, we will look at the linebackers.

4. Detroit Lions: Derrick Barnes, Alex Anzalone, Jarrad Davis, Malcolm Rodriguez

The NFC North has plenty of talent at the linebacker position so it is easy for a team like the Detroit Lions to slip to fourth here. Derrick Barnes has some potential, but last year he was a rookie and he played situationally.

He is expected to be a full-time starter this season and be a leader of the defense, but there is a lot of projection and he would clearly be the worst of the four teams’ top linebackers.

Anzalone led the Lions in snaps last season. That is notable, and good news for the Lions because injuries has typically been his downfall. Still, the injuries may be taking their toll on him as he was one of the worst linebackers last season, especially with his coverage.

Jarrad Davis signed with the Lions after failing with them under a previous regime. He is hoping the new staff and front office could make for a better second coming. Lastly is Malcolm Rodriguez. Considering this is a day-three pick there is not much to get excited about, although he was fluid in coverage during his college career. Still, there are a lot of questions with this group from top to bottom.
