The Chicago Bears are going to have a very important training camp. Matt Eberflus is hoping to change the culture in one summer, and he knows that what tone he sets this year will follow him for years to come.
There are also some players who are going to enter big training camps. Some of these players returning will be seeing a coaching change for the first time in their careers, and others will see a front-office change, so even the most experienced players are in for a little new.
Who are four players that will need to set the tone in training camp to have a big season?
4. Eddie Jackson
Eddie Jackson went from one of the team’s top building blocks to someone who is going to be on the chopping block if he does not start to get it together. We are a long way from the 2018 season, and Jackson is on the books for over $14M in 2023. The Bears could save $13M by letting him go, and it could be up to Jackson to make that decision easier or tougher.
If Jackson comes out and struggles like the past couple of years, the Bears will easily be ready to move on. At the same time, the addition of Jaquan Brisker should bring out the best in Jackson.
It should keep Jackson out of the box, and playing where he is more comfortable. If Jackson and Brisker hit it off as a dynamic duo he can be retained. There is a lot on the line when Jackson enters camp and it will be on him to make the most of his new opportunity.
