Some fans may not see it this way, but this is a huge year for David Montgomery. This is the last year of David Montgomery on his rookie contract. If the Bears and Montgomery do not come to an extension in the next couple of months he is going to enter the year as a possible free agent.

This is going to be a huge debate. On one hand, Montgomery is going to show up to training camp and be ready to earn his salary. You do not have to worry about him in that area. The real question comes down to how much does his presence in the locker room add to his value?

Running backs are seeing their value decrease every year. It is more important to have a strong line, and there are so many good young running backs, that the team can just turn to Khalil Herbert, who did just fine behind Montgomery.

It seems wild, but this could be the last off-season that Montgomery will be heading to camp with the Bears. Keep an eye on how things develop.
