We are getting closer to the start of the Chicago Bears season and with that, we are getting closer to the 53-man roster in our countdown of the Bears roster. The list is going from 90 to one and ranking the players based on their ability to impact the Bears’ record
We have made it to number 60 so far.
Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 60 Nate Peterman
The third quarterback is always going to be the toughest to rank. On one hand, in the best case, the team never needs him. However, his value to the room is underrated because of what the third quarterback typically brings on weekdays.
They could make the 53-man roster, but it is more on the team preference and how comfortable they feel about injuries and their emergency quarterback than anything. It is fair to say that he is valuable enough and if worse came to worse, he would impact the team enough that he has to get closer to 53 than 90.
At the same time, he probably should not be at 53 because he would not make the roster in most case scenarios.
Then, there is the realization of who he is. It is hard to get too excited about Nathan Peterman. Even in past years when it was Tyler Bray he at least was not getting the punchline jokes such as Peterman.
There has to be something about Peterman that is helping stick on rosters every year, and that value probably comes in the quarterback room.
The reality is that even if they keep him as the number three, fans will be screaming to sign someone if Justin Fields got banged up. That is where 60 becomes the happy medium. Mostly every player below him is a UDFA or a veteran that is not likely to make the roster. This is the right spot.
