The countdown to the Chicago Bears’ top players on the roster is underway. We are going from 90 to number one focusing on which players would have the biggest impact on the 2022 roster. We have made it all the way to number 57 overall.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 57 Caleb Johnson

2021 Roster Ranking: 87

Caleb Johnson Is definitely one of the big risers from where he was last year to where he is now. Last year at this point he was just a UDFA rookie from Houston-Baptist. Without being known and coming from such a small school it was easy to question how he would handle the adjustment.

Beyond that, he had to beat out a lot of depth to get onto the roster. It did help that Danny Trevathan was injured, but when it came down to it Caleb Johnson earned it.

He stepped up in a big way during the preseason and throughout training camp and went from a player who had an outside shot at the practice squad, to a player inside the 53-man roster.

Now, the big question is how the new front office will view Johnson. They are bringing in their own guys, and not many Ryan Poles pieces will be on the roster a few years from now.

It would not be surprising if the new regime was more interested in their own UDFAs, and players such as C.J. Avery, and Jack Sanborn.

These are the Poles players, and he may have a slight bias towards them. Johnson proved us wrong last season and may do it again this year, even after jumping all the way to 57. Still, an argument can be made that he should be inside the top 53.

With the change in the front office, he is going to have to prove himself again. At least it will be much easier around roster spot 57 than 87.
