Ryan Poles put too much effort into signing Larry Ogunjobi too early

When it comes to the NFL, there are two days of what everyone calls the legal tampering period. These two days come before the start of the NFL season each year and it honestly has the most action. However, at times, we see situations play out like what happened with the Chicago Bears and Larry Ogunjobi. When an agreement has been made, but without an official contract, a player or a team can elect to no longer adhere to the original agreement.

The problem and the mistake that Ryan Poles made this offseason, was putting too much effort into assigning too many resources to Larry Ogunjobi early in the free agency process. Do not shoot the messenger here and call me negative on Ryan Poles. I’ll remind you all, that I’m not here to give every move, or lack thereof a pass for this team. I also have been on record before most that Ryan Poles was my top want for the Bears’ general manager position. Also, Poles himself even admitted that had they known the medicals ahead of time, they could have looked elsewhere.

Would that elsewhere have been a different position? Look at the offensive line and tell me that this team couldn’t have used another body? Tell me they couldn’t use a right guard or a left tackle? Right now, this team is holding out hope that either their fifth-round draft pick can block Justin Fields’ blind side or Larry Borom can handle it. This also means they hope either Borom or Teven Jenkins can lock down the right tackle spot. This one mistake at the beginning of the offseason could be a domino effect that might cost Chicago some hope in 2022, but that’s about it.
