As we countdown until the start of training camp we are also counting down the Chicago Bears roster to see which players could impact the roster. This list is going from 90 all the way down to number one and focuses on which player will affect results most often.

We are all the way to number 55, which is borderline roster players.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 55 Julién Davenport

Most fans see Julien Davenport as a training camp body that will push some of the young names. Still, this is a player who has been in the NFL since 2017 and even started four games last season for the Indianapolis Colts.

It was not pretty, and no one is mistaking Davenport for a serious long-term answer, but when you look at the Bears’ depth chart he is by far the most experienced at tackle.

If a rookie gets banged up, or Braxton Jones is behind on the playbook, the odds of Julien Davenport not only making the roster but now being in contention to start is getting more and more likely.

Davenport started 15 games, a career-high in 2018 with the Texans. There is a reason he never played that often again, and the Bears are not hoping he will be getting too much work this year.

Still, that is what makes 55 a fair ranking for him. He has just as much chance of being cut as he does starting, and if he gets cut, he is a player who may look for a new job rather than wanting to stick on the practice squad.

Still, if push comes to shove the Chicago Bears will also have to realize that a rookie like Ja’Tyre Carter is probably going to be easier to get to the practice squad than Davenport. If they can keep Carter and Davenport as opposed to losing Davenport, they may choose the former, and that may get a name most Bears fans are not familiar with on their 53-man roster.
