Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith is disrespected by the NFL again
The Chicago Bears are lucky to have a player like Roquan Smith on the roster
We will look at the 2021 per-game stats for both Roquan Smith and Fred Warner in certain areas and some seasonal stats that don’t break down as well from a per-game perspective. The 2020 stats will be easier to break down seasonally.
2021 Per Game Stats:
"Combined Tackles: Smith = 9.59 / Warner = 8.50 Solo Tackles: Smith = 5.59 / Warner = 4.94 Tackles for Loss: Smith = 0.71 / Warner = 0.44"
2021 Total Season Stats:
"Sacks: Smith = 3.0 / Warner = 0.5 Interceptions: Smith = 1 / Warner = 0 Forced Fumbles: Smith = 0 / Warner = 1 Fumble Recoveries: Smith = 0 / Warner = 3 Passes Defensed: Smith = 3 / Warner = 4 Touchdowns: Smith = 1 / Warner = 0 Missed Tackle Rate: Smith = 3.6% / Warner = 7.4% Completion % Allowed: Smith = 71.2% / Warner = 79.0% QB Rating Allowed: Smith = 76.8 / Warner = 111.6"
Now, in the NFL’s defense, Warner was not selected to a Pro Bowl in 2021 either. He also did not make either the First-Team or Second-Team All-Pro lists. The reason I am bringing up Warner though is that he is mentioned in a recent NFL article and Roquan Smith’s name was not even mentioned. As you can clearly see, Smith outplayed Warner in nearly every category last year.
Before we get into that, let’s quickly look at the 2020 stats to give a further comparison as Warner did make the Pro Bowl that season, plus was a First-Team All-Pro. Since they both played in all 16 games in 2020, this should go a little quicker.
2020 Total Season Stats:
"Combined Tackles: Smith = 139 / Warner = 125 Solo Tackles: Smith = 98 / Warner = 79 Tackles for Loss: Smith = 18 / Warner = 5 Sacks: Smith = 4.0 / Warner = 1.0 Interceptions: Smith = 2 / Warner = 2 Forced Fumbles: Smith = 1 / Warner = 1 Fumble Recoveries: Smith = 1 / Warner = 1 Passes Defensed: Smith = 7 / Warner = 6 Touchdowns: Both = 0 Missed Tackle Rate: Smith = 6.7% / Warner = 5.3% Completion % Allowed: Smith = 63.3% / Warner = 62.3% QB Rating Allowed: Smith = 59.6 / Warner = 69.7"
Can someone please tell me how Fred Warner is above and beyond better than Roquan Smith? Someone from PFF care to weigh in? Ha, do not bother. This is all nonsense and Smith should be viewed higher by the league and analysts. Now for the new disrespect thrown at Smith.
