With the countdown until the start of training camp underway we are counting down the Chicago Bears roster from 90 all the way down to number one. This is a list of all the players who will be most impactful on how the Bears perform this season.

We are on our way to number 52.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 52 Sam Kamara

2021 Ranking: No. 86

Sam Kamara has to be the biggest riser from last season. He was ranked 86th last season as a rookie UDFA from Stony Brook. It hurt him being a UDFA, but coming from such a small school, and entering a depth chart that was arguably the deepest on the roster had Kamara unlikely to make any impact.

He certainly overshot expectations and saw himself back on the roster for a second straight training camp. He started on the practice squad but wound up being active for eight games.

It helped that injuries bounced around the roster and gave the Chicago Bears a chance to call him up to the roster. Kamara did not play often, but getting onto the roster as a rookie UDFA from such a small school is impressive.

Now, he is back inside the top 53 players on the roster because the interior defensive line depth chart did not get that much better. Adding Justin Jones instead of Larry Ogunjobi helps the case of Kamara, and a player like Mario Edwards is almost more of a defensive end than a defensive tackle.

It is not farfetched to see him on the roster as a depth interior defensive lineman, and the biggest thing holding him back could be Ryan Poles and the coaching staff having preconceived notions to bring in their own type of players.

Even if that is the case the Chicago Bears should get him onto the practice squad, so a depth lineman and a possible practice squad option is worth being this high.
