As we count down the days until the start of training camp we are continuing the count down from 90 to one of the Chicago Bears roster. This list is focusing on which players could have the biggest impact during the 2022 season. At this point, we are onto number 49 on our list.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 49 Elijah Hicks

Elijah Hicks was a seventh-round pick from California. He is a rookie safety for the Chicago Bears. Hicks being a draft pick gives him some benefit, but on the other hand, he was the team’s ninth overall pick and was drafted as their sixth pick on day three.

So,  Hicks has some things going in his favor, but at the same time is still right on the low end of the roster, sitting just inside the top 50.

Considering he was drafted you should expect him to make the roster. At the same time, he will have to earn it, and the numbers may not be helping him.

Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker are obvious starters. Then, the team signed Dane Cruikshank, who is a dime option. They re-signed DeAndre Houston-Carson, which was not a huge signing because of the money, but does bring upside, especially considering he started for the team last season.

He played well and has made the roster since 2016 because of his special teams’ ability. Considering he is the fourth safety it will be hard to knock him off.

The Chicago Bears could certainly carry five safeties, and if they do so, then you should not be surprised to see Hicks as the fifth safety. Still, if he shows little to nothing in training camp, he will likely be spending a season on the practice squad.

At best, he is a depth safety with special teams upside, but he should make the roster which gets him to number 49.
