The days are closing until training camp starts and we are counting down the Chicago Bears roster from 90 all the way until number one. The ranking will be looking into which players have the biggest potential impact on the roster.
We have made our way inside the top 53, and are up to number 47 now.
Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 47 Doug Kramer
Doug Kramer was a sixth-round pick, a center from Illinois. He was the ninth drafted player on the Chicago Bears in 2022. With that in mind, he is not a priority pick, but he is expected to make the roster. That is what puts him inside the top 53.
He also is expected to be the backup center, behind Lucas Patrick. That has typically been where he has run, but to be fair, he has not had much competition. Sam Mustipher and Doug Kramer were going to compete for the backup center role on paper.
However, issues with the right guard competition have seen Sam Mustipher getting first-team repetitions at right guard, and obviously being in the mix to start there. If Mustipher is preoccupied with right guard, there is no competition for Doug Kramer at center.
That is good and bad. Good, in that he is going to make the roster as a backup center. Bad, in that he is probably still behind Mustipher on any pecking order, and the only reason he is making the roster is that the person he was supposed to compete with is actually starting.
There is still a chance that Kramer struggles and winds up on the practice squad, but that is not as likely as it is that he makes the roster. Still, there is a better chance that Mustipher starts than him right now, and that is why it is hard to rank him inside the top 45. So, for now 47 looks right.
