Dazz Newsome might have a hard time sticking around with the Chicago Bears

A name we have not heard many times this offseason is Dazz Newsome. Newsome was a sixth-round draft pick by Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy last season. Many fans, including myself, had high hopes of Newsome making the final 53-man roster last season. However, a broken collarbone set him back early and we did not see him on the field until Week 15.

Newsome saw action in only three games. He caught only two of five targets for 23 yards. He was essentially useless on the field outside of the punt return game where he finished with six returns for 75 yards. Unfortunately, keeping Newsome on the roster as a punt returner is just not feasible. He was not elite in that area either and the Chicago Bears have plenty of other options they can throw back there this season.

Now, if Ryan Poles were having to decide between N’Keal Harry, a former first-round talent who they sent a future draft pick for, or Dazz Newsome, my money would be on Harry. I don’t believe Harry is a lock to make the final roster despite the team sending a future seventh-round pick to the Patriots. At best, Newsome may stick around on the practice squad this season, but coming from the Ryan Pace regime does not help his chances.
