4. 984 rushing yards

This would be another second-best rate for Montgomery, who was under 900 yards twice, but over 1,000 in the other year. This has him closer to his 2020 season. What is interesting to note about the 2020 season is that it is also the only year he averaged over 4 yards per carry.

It is interesting because most fans do not remember that being some year where the line was at Its best, and that has typically been the source of blame for Montgomery and his lack of production.

He averaged 4.3 yards per carry in 2020. One thing that stands out is that he had an 80-yard touchdown run that season against the Texans in a game where he ended up with 33 yards the rest of the day.

That 80-yard run was his longest by well over 20 yards, and without it, his average would go right back down from 4.3 to 4. That is a huge swing on one run, and it is mainly because Montgomery so rarely provides that big of a splash. Any time he can provide a big boom, it resonates.

On average, Montgomery averages 936 yards per season. If you assume he breaks an 80-yard run, you could find the extra 50 yards that would get him over. If not, he probably will be more in line with the other two seasons.

The lack of explosive runs, and the addition of Herbert into the mix has us thinking under 984 yards.
