We are getting closer to the start of training camp. With that, we are counting down the Chicago Bears roster as well. From 90 all the way to number one, we are ranking which players are going to be most impactful during the 2022 season.

We are into the top 40, and down to number 36.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 36 Darrynton Evans

Darrynton Evans is a former third-round in his third NFL season. It is not often that you see a third-round pick finding a new team after just two seasons, but Evans has had a unique set of circumstances.

He essentially has not been able to get on the field with injuries. From an ACL to a hamstring and bumps and bruises in between. The Titans moved on, but it appears as though Ryan Poles is interested in him, and that may have stemmed from prior to the 2020 draft.

Evans is young, he tested to be very fast, and he could profile as a great number three running back. Khalil Herbert is a great backup, but he is not the biggest pass-catcher. The team needs a different player to compliment the one-two punch of Herbert and David Montgomery.

Evans could be that guy but has to compete with Trestan Ebner, a rookie from Baylor. Ebner was only a seventh-round pick, so there is not a strong tie to the team. They also could get Ebner to the practice squad easily being a rookie with that status.

Evans is a better all-around athlete and had a much better college profile than Ebner. which is why he went higher just two years ago. Evans having missed essentially each of the past two years is what is evening the playing field between himself and Ebner more than it is locking Ebner onto the roster.

That is what makes him a top 40 player. He may never catch, but if he does, the role would be decent.
