Chicago Bears’ Robert Quinn receives questionable Madden 23 rating
By Dakota Wayne
After setting a Chicago Bears single-season record for sacks, Robert Quinn seemingly revived a career that looked to be on the tail end.
Now, with trade rumors around Robert Quinn, his value is in a weird spot.
Disregarding last season, it took Quinn three seasons to accumulate 20 sacks, which is just a sack-and-a-half above what he did last season with his 18.5 sacks.
So, while last season was a bit of an anomaly in terms of Robert Quinn’s production, who says he can’t have a similar season this upcoming year? Maybe those that understand how the human body ages, but in all seriousness, there’s nothing to say that Robert Quinn can’t compete at a similar level this year as he did last.
Going into the 2022 NFL season, Robert Quinn is at the ripe age of 32, and he just finished a season where he played in the most games since his 2018 season with Miami.
All this is to say that Robert Quinn received a Madden 23 rating of 83, which ranked him between Marcus Davenport and Leonard Williams in right-defensive-end rankings.
Does Chicago Bears’ Robert Quinn deserve a higher Madden 23 rating after setting a single-season franchise record?
In 16 starts with the Bears, Robert Quinn produced 49 combined tackles (38 solos, 11 assisted); 17 TFLs; 18.5 sacks; and four forced fumbles. So, while Robert Quinn made a solid impact on the Chicago Bears defense, should his Madden rating be higher?
That’s debatable, as his impact on the defense was highly dependent on sacks. Outside sacks and forced fumbles, his stat sheet didn’t fly off the page.
However, his stats were enough to get him to earn All-Pro honors, as well as get voted in for the 2021 Pro Bowl. And considering the fact that Madden ratings don’t really mean all that much, they mean much more to those that play Madden than those that are actually being rated.
That can at least be confidently said about Robert Quinn, as he’s shown he doesn’t pay much attention to the outside noise.
So, while Robert Quinn likely doesn’t care about his Madden 23 rating, was he rated correctly? It’s hard to say because of his unicorn-like season last year.
One right end that ranked higher than Robert Quinn in Madden 23 is one Bears fans are familiar with. However, it’s a head-scratcher as to why he’s ranked above Robert Quinn.
Akiem Hicks rounded out the top 10 right ends, sitting at an 84 overall, which is one overall higher than Quinn.
In 2021 alone, Hicks accumulated 25 total tackles (19 solo, six assisted); five TFLs; and 3.5 sacks in nine starts. Something doesn’t add up here.
Not only did Quinn play almost double the games Hicks did, but his stats are also at least doubled in almost every measured category. Sure, Hicks’ overall is only one spot higher, but it fails to make sense.
Madden has some explaining to do.
