We are making our way down the Chicago Bears roster from 90 all the way to number one. The list is looking into which players will have the biggest impact on the wins and losses of the Bears in 2022.

We have made it into the top 30, and are now closing in on the 22 most impactful players. Now, we are at number 27.

Chicago Bears 2022 roster ranking: No. 27 Mario Edwards

2021 Roster Ranking: No. 23

Mario Edwards was signed late into the offseason in 2020 but wound up having an excellent season. He did not quite repeat that performance, but in a rotational role, he did just fine for the team.

Still, he did drop from 23 to 27, and that mainly comes from a question of how much he will be used. The reality is that unless the Chicago Bears trade Robert Quinn, Edwards will have more value on the interior, where the depth is thin.

That is often where he lined up last season, but Edwards is arguably a tweener, who can be too small to consistently line up inside. It is helpful on passing downs, but on running downs, it is more valuable to have him on the edge and use his size to keep runs inside.

Still, with all of the depth at edge rusher, there is a question of whether the team will just use him as a pass-rushing threat on obvious passing downs. It would get the most out of Edwards, but his snap count would probably drop from last year.

The Indianapolis Colts used Denico Autry in a similar manner, and it brought out the best in Autry. If the Bears believe they can pull that out of Edwards, this may be too low of a ranking. However, the new coaching staff also may not be invested, as they use him sparingly and move on this offseason.
