Ryan Poles passes one Chicago Bears offseason test as another develops
We have already seen Kyler Gordon force Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears into giving him more than originally offered. The move has been a trend for second-round draft picks looking to earn more guaranteed money in the third year of their deals. Gordon played his card during minicamp and did not practice while dealing with an injury (this is speculation on why he was injured). Now, Jaquan Brisker and Roquan Smith are following suit.
Well, Ryan Poles already put one fire out as Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the two sides have come to a conclusion on Brisker’s four-year deal. Knowing this, reports are also coming out that Jaquan Brisker will indeed report for training camp tomorrow. It should be known he was supposed to report on July 23, 2022, but chose to push the Chicago Bears into negotiations.
Jaquan Brisker reportedly ending his holdout with the Chicago Bears
Roquan Smith’s situation is still ongoing. However, Ryan Poles was at least able to pass another offseason test by finding a way to get his starting rookie safety back out on the practice field before training camp even truly started. With both Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon back on the field, it will not only help the defense but also the offense in the long run.
Many believe that Jaquan Brisker will have the better season out of the two additions to the Bears backfield from the 2022 NFL Draft. Both will be counted on heavily this year as the two cannot be any worse than what the team had last season. I would expect to see more takeaways from this team in 2022 and I believe both Jaquan Brisker and Kyler Gordon will play a large part in that.
Signing both the rookies should not have been too difficult. It will definitely be more difficult to come to an agreement with Roquan Smith. For one, the rookies have a wage scale. The guaranteed money was a newer push. With the wage scale though, it makes things much easier nowadays for teams to sign their rookies. Finding the sweet spot and paying Roquan Smith on the other hand is much more difficult. Let’s see what Ryan Poles and Cliff Stein come up with.
