4. Chicago Bears storyline: The search for a second wide receiver
Last year in 2021, we saw a receiving core that failed to find absolutely any separation all year and made Justin Fields’ job about as hard as possible. This is why this should be a storyline to monitor as we approach training camp. The WR2 role to the WR6 role is completely open for the taking, and someone will need to prove themselves as a target for the young QB.
Byron Pringle emerged as the second-best WR and third-best target for the Chiefs and their high-octane offense last year — especially come playoff time. I don’t see why he shouldn’t be able to contribute this year on the Bears.
Velus Jones appears to be a guy who can help the Bears after the catch, and with the ball in his hands and could be successful in the gadget role for the Bears. The Bears also brought in Equinamous Saint Brown and Neal Harry, who are both big-body receivers who can set the tone, blocking in the run game, as well as adding contested catch ability in the red zone.
