The Chicago Bears were so high on Kyler Gordon that they laughed off the idea of seeing him fall to them in the 2022 NFL draft. So, it should be no surprise that the team is ready for the rookie to hit the ground running during his first training camp.

Gordon ran with the first team, which was expected, and what he was doing in OTAs. However, another revelation came about when the team decided to mix Gordon into the slot. So, Gordon technically was getting a few repetitions with the first team at two different positions. This is what you want to see.

Kyler Gordon was a player who moved in and out of the slot at Washington. There was a possibility that he would be doing this, but working with the first team on the first day at both shows how advanced he is.

Beyond that, it may give us a peek into how they view Kyler Gordon. Nowadays, some of the best wide receivers in the NFL can move into the slot. We have seen top-end cornerbacks such as Jalen Ramsey and Jaire Alexander move into the slot more and more to match up with the big names on offense who are stepping inside as well.

Still, only the elite cornerbacks are the ones who can follow a wideout from the outside and into the slot, then back outside. The Chicago Bears may think that they can do this with Kyler Gordon.

The Bears have played sides throughout the Vic Fangio era through last season. We do not know for sure, but the team may not be sticking their corners on one side anymore.

Kyler Gordon is a bit smaller but also more loose in his hips and shifty. Meanwhile, Johnson is bigger, longer, and can defend the sideline better. It would make sense to give the two corners with differing skill sets the ability to follow a wideout that they match up best with.

This could mean that Gordon follows the wideouts that move around and jump into the slot while Johnson plays the wideouts who run their routes down the sidelines. Having Gordon be that versatile not only help Johnson but creates ripples down the secondary that makes matching up easier.

dark. Next. Is a Robert Quinn trade unlikely?

It is just one day, but we should expect to see Gordon continue to move around and master both, as the team may also unleash him in both areas.
