The Chicago Bears have finished up their second week of training camp and things are changing as the team heads into the first week of preseason preparation. What are the biggest storylines so far in training camp?

4. Back end of the roster churn

The Chicago Bears have been churning out the back end of their roster. Injuries have been impacting the team, and they let go of four players, mostly with injury settlements. The team added Trevon Coley and cut Auzoyah Alufohai. The move pushed a UDFA off of the roster and gave the team depth in the form of a veteran who has been on an NFL roster in three of the past four seasons.

Coley could play the 3-technique, which is the Bears’ biggest need, so he may be the rare late summer signing who makes a roster. The Bears also added Davontae Harris, letting go of Jon Alexander in what turns out to be a similar move.

Thomas Graham has not h the team said they do not expect him back soon. So, the Chicago Bears cut a UDFA safety and added a cornerback who could make the roster with special teams’ experience.

Lastly, two linebackers were waived due to injuries. UDFAs Christian Albright and CJ Avery were let go for DeMarquis Gates and Javin White. Gates has moved around from the AAF, to the USFL, and to the XFL while White has spent the past two seasons in the NFL.

These are not major additions, and both linebackers were not expected to make the roster, but they are all noteworthy as the first preseason game is coming.
