1. Luke Getsy helps get Darnell Mooney open

The last thing to note goes back to Luke Getsy, who was ready to move Mooney around. Beyond that, he had Equainemous St. Brown, who has aligned on the outside run a post to the inside. This route, with Mooney running a fade to the outside from the slot, had the defensive backs rub just enough that it was able to give Mooney the space he needed to haul in the contested pass.

This is valuable for two reasons. First, we are seeing that Getsy is using the scheme to get Mooney open down the field. Matt Nagy ran his offense, but Getsy is running plays to get his best players in advantageous situations.

Beyond that, we are seeing the value of ESB. When he was signed, all of the reports said that the Bears appreciated that ESB did the little things. He blocks, he plays special teams, and on this play, he knows that his route has to be run correctly because he is helping free space for Mooney.

ESB knows the play is not for him, but makes the right play and gets his man open. These are the types of players you need, and seeing ESB run this route shows that he is someone that the Chicago Bears can trust to be their scrappy wideout who does all of the little things.
