4 Chicago Bears most likely to be in first round of cuts
The Chicago Bears will have to trim their roster from 90 men to 85 by Tuesday at 3 PM. That is not an overwhelmingly significant drop-off in players, but five players on 32 teams will end up losing their roster spot in the next 48 hours. They already released Carson Taylor, a UDFA.
There will be tough decisions to make and the loss of a few players will make the lines shorter at some positions in the next preseason game. Who are four players who could be on the roster edge right now that may be joining Taylor?
4. Michael Joseph
This one may be the Chicago Bears using an injury to make an easier call. Joseph was not going to make the roster anyways and was a holdover from the Ryan Pace regime. He was not high on the new staff’s totem pole and suffered an injury that may hold him out of the next week of practice.
If the team was going to let him go two weeks from now, and he is going to miss one week, why not make the easy decision and cut him now? They could possibly cut him with an injury settlement, and at least he will be able to net some more cash out of it, which could show goodwill from the front office.
Either way, this new coaching staff needs players that will be healthy and able to suit up and If Joseph cannot do that, then he is an easy cut. In the secondary he does not take away too much and considering he was already banged up, it is essentially a situation to get it over with now instead of waiting.
