The Score ranked the Chicago Bears offensive line dead last

Prior to the signing of Michael Schofield and Riley Reiff, I would not have put the Chicago Bears’ offensive line very high in any rankings. I haven’t put together my full offensive line confidence rankings yet, however, on my podcast I made it known that prior to the signings, I gave the group a score of a one out of 10 — one being the lowest. After the signings, I bumped that confidence ranking up to a three.

Even with the ranking of a one, I’m not sure I would have put them dead last. There are plenty of other teams that I find have a worse situation than the Chicago Bears regarding their offensive line and honestly their team as a whole. The Score, however, has the Chicago Bears ranked dead last even after the addition of Schofield and Reiff. The article states:

"“The Bears’ line was already expected to be one of the more questionable units in the league, but a hand injury to new center Lucas Patrick (no timetable for return) adds even more uncertainty to this group.”"

Although there isn’t a specific timetable for Lucas Patrick to return, it shouldn’t keep him out beyond the first couple of weeks in the season and he has the potential to even be back by Week 1. Losing Patrick is a big blow, but since the injury happened early enough in training camp, it shouldn’t be enough to move them into last place.

The article also stated:

"Everyone’s focused on the front office’s inability to bring in quality pass-catching options for Justin Fields. The bigger issue could end up being the lack of competent protection in front of him."

We saw some of these issues in the first preseason game. However, Riley Reiff didn’t play and I think having him next to Schofield should lock down the right side enough to be at least average. Schofield struggled early, but we need to remember he wasn’t signed until a little over two weeks ago. Braxton Jones was honestly impressive for his first start against another team and once Lucas Patrick is back, this line has more potential than many give them credit.
