2. Chase Allen, TE

Chase Allen is a tight end from Iowa State. As a tight end, he profiles similarly to Jesse James, and we know that Justin Fields always liked that James was such a tall body who could go up and get it in the red zone. Allen has a similar size and a skill set that could make him a capable blocker with jump ball ability in the red zone.

It helped that Cole Kmet, Ryan Griffin, and James O’Shaugnessy were all out with injuries in the first preseason game, but Allen was thrust into starting and playing with Fields.

He ended up with the most playing time of all tight ends, getting most of the work with Trevor Siemian as well. He spent 18 snaps blocking and ran 13 routes. It was clear that the Chicago Bears staff was interested in getting a long look at Allen.

Allen got the extra opportunity because of the injuries above him, ut the injuries above him may also keep him on the roster. It is clear that the Bears want to be a multiple tight end team, and just one name going down due to injury could make Allen a needed player. That could be enough to make him a depth asset as the fourth tight end who makes the roster.
